This page displays useful educational and practical links to documents and websites relevant to cardiac rhythm management. Documents and links displayed have been collated from members experience, web searches, manufacturer websites and from company representatives. The materials displayed are not intended to promote device manufacturers or companies but are simply highlighted to offer simple and easy access to information which is often required quickly to assist, or answer questions faced in everyday practice.

Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) Reference Guides

CRM reference guides hold a vast amount of information on pacemakers, ICDS and leads.  Some of the information available include device X-ray ID codes, magnet and battery behaviour, lead types and generator information.  They can be particularly useful in determining compatibility between lead types and generator header connectors at generator changes and for upgrades.

Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Compatibility Guides

Detailed advice is offered in the guides below on precautions to take when patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) use electrical equipment.

Exercising with an ICD

Below is a guide from the Arrhythmia Alliance with advice for patients on exercising with an ICD.

Travel with a CIED

Below are links to manufacturer specific webpages offering travel advice to patients with CIED’s. These pages are an excellent resource for patients concerned about travelling abroad and can be highlighted to patients as a resource of information. There are also search tools available to help locate hospitals close to patient holiday destinations which are equipped to help patients with CIEDs should they become unwell when abroad.

MRI and CIEDs

In addition to the BHRS MRI page the website below is an excellent resource for patients and clinicians on all things MRI and CIEDs. Current guidelines, links to manufacturer compatibility checks and standard operating procedures from existing established MRI services are all freely available.

Medtronic Academy

A large resource of free educational material aimed at providing physicians and healthcare professionals with the skills to help treat and care for patients. Resources include a wide range of online courses, presentations, case studies, procedural videos and webcasts.

Medtronic Features

A resource with access to Medtronic specific device algorithms across a range of Medtronic CIEDs. Details on algorithm function and programming Details are available for specific algorithms, function and programming which may help with troubleshooting or general learning.

Medtronic Product Performance

A link to Medtronic device product performance across past and present CIEDs. Useful in determining lead and generator connector types/compatibility.

CIED Teaching & Algorithms

A resource created by Electrophysiologists who have shared a large number of traces with web users. The site is a free site with a wealth of information dedicated to Cardiac Pacing, Cardiac Defibrillation, Biventricular Pacing and Remote monitoring including pacemaker companies’ specificities and algorithm function.

Drug Checkers

From Arizona University, a site listing all drugs contra-indicated in Long QT syndrome patients.

From the SADS website, a list of drugs to avoid in both LQTS and Brugada syndrome.
